Ambiguity
1995

Medium:
Oil on Canvas Panel
Dimensions:
9 x 12 inches
Genre/Style:
Surrealism
Description:
As one of my earliest expeditions into the unconscious, the title for this expressionistic portrait purely emerged from its surface; because, although inspiration animated my brush, that same impulse was still only able to produce hints of a narrative, with little detail (hence, the ambiguity).
However, through the lens of hindsight, I now can't help but see this painting as a possible foretelling, during this early stage of creative development. It is the foretelling of an emotional journey through the mysteries of the Self (the world within) which is conveyed here as a mountain that must be climbed.
