As a self-referencing echo of the Creative Process, the imagery in "Animating the Unreal" is both a portrayal of the artist (drawing from the imagination to create an alternate reality on canvas) and the image's own will (animating itself through the unconscious impulse of inspiration).

However, the imagery in this piece neither exclusively refers to myself (as the artist) nor the image (as the voice of inspiration); but instead, simply includes us.

The real subject then, is "Potentiality": having the capacity to create or become something new or different (something that doesn't already exist, objectively).

We often think of Alchemy as some fictional form of magic. But, in truth, the Alchemist label can be applied to anyone who has created something of value, using raw materials; as well as anyone who has pursued and realized a dream or ambition (manifesting what was once intangible).

After all... we all have the capacity to create "Gold" (the things we want) from "base matter" (from what is).
