Antithesis is an internal dialogue that extends beyond the concept of existence, into recognizing that I am also my own negation.
This painting is one of my earliest investigations into the conflict between spirit and body, both of which seek harmony (with its counterpart) but require nurturing in different ways. It is about yearning, desire and (at its heart) self-denial. But, it also explores the possibility of loving without our bodies, and the puzzle of seeing without eyes.
And yet, empirically, this coexistence (like yin and yang) paradoxically remains a tug-of-war, for the most part, a mysterious drama that is like a puzzle with all of its pieces still in the box.
On one hand, Antithesis can be seen as an image that hasn't been fully realized yet, because of psychological components that can really only be interpreted, rather than presumed to tell a truth.
And in the other... it is Schrodinger's cat.
