It would be easy to say that My Flower, My Love... and My Nemesis are both about the frustration of unrequited love. After all, these companion pieces were created after suffering yet another wound of rejection.

However, the benefits of hindsight are real. And, as I sat with these expressive images, many years later, I ultimately realized that the subject of these paintings isn't the real-life object of my affection, but instead, infatuation itself... a recurring and self-sabotaging preoccupation that was always doomed to fail.
