As only my second attempt at painting, this portrait may seem like a giant leap forward in comparison to Inside, Looking Out.

However, in context, with many years of drawing behind me, I simply needed to slow down and settle into the process, which the experience of the previous painting enabled me to do, having partially informed my process of application.

In addition, I equipped myself with a photo reference, to keep things simple this time. That way, I didn't have to rely on the imagination to conjur magic.
